Best situation to use a RJ11 Connector

There are multiple connectors available in the market for different purposes. Not every connector can work with every wire. Similarly, your connection needs might want you to use variable connectors. In such a situation, you must be confused about the perfect situation to use an RJ11 connector, right?

Most homes in the US contain at least one RJ11 jack. This is the phone jack. The RJ11 is one of the most widely used pieces of equipment in the world, although few people actually know what it is called.

CABLING OF THE RJ11 CONNECTOR

Although the plug of an RJ11 connection contains six contacts, only two of these elements are needed to connect to a telephone cord. The telephone cord contains four wires, although only two of these wires are used. The two wires represent the forward and reverse directions of a complete circuit. The front wire carries a positive charge and is called the "tip". The reverse wire carries a negative charge and is called a "ring". The spike wire is usually connected to pin 4 of the connector and the ring wire goes to pin 3.

As the connector contains six contacts and the phone line only needs two of them, the same connector can be used to connect up to three different lines to the same phone. When this occurs, the first line still occupies the two central contacts, the second line uses the two contacts on either side of them, and the third line connects to the two external contacts. Two-line and three-line wiring in the connector is not part of the RJ11 specification. The two-line configuration is found in the specification of an RJ14 connector and the three-line connection scheme is called RJ25.

CONNECTION WITH A PHONE LINE:

If you want to connect your landline with the primary wire, you can utilize the RJ11 connectors. They are specifically designed for it so they will work efficiently.

However, to utilize this wire, you must be using the telephone jacks with an analog telephone. It won’t work with the other types of telephones.

MULTIPLE LINE CONNECTION:

Although it is used for connecting the telephones only, these connectors can hold three different phone lines and six wires. But depending upon the number of wires it can hold, the nomenclature of this connector changes.

The connector holding a single phone line or two wires is RJ11, the one holding four wires and 2 phone lines are RJ14, and the one that can hold up to 3 telephone lines or 6 wires is RJ25.

PROCESS OF CONNECTING RJ11 CONNECTOR:

Connecting RJ11 with the telephone line is simple. Here’s the process:

  • Strip the wire to a few inches.
  • Insert the connector into the wire.
  • Use a crimping tool to crimp the connector with the wire.
  • Tug it a bit to check if a secured connection has been formed.

SUMMING UP:

RJ11 connectors can be used for connecting the telephone jack with the analog telephone. Using it is simple, and you can easily manage it yourself.
